Ilha de Boipeba - Bahia - Brasil
Welcome to Pousada Horizonte Azul
Velha Boipeba
As well as its natural beauties, Velha Boipeba (Old boipeba) has an architecture expressing the good taste of its inhabitants in the colour and in the shape of its houses. All the house fronts are adorned with flowers.
An important exemple of the local architecture is the church of the Divine Saint Spirit, a building of the XVII century, with neoclassic altars and tiles portraying biblic subjects, rests of the Jesuit presence.
Morerè
Placed on the eastern part of the island it is one the main community of fishermen in Boipeba, with views of great scenic beauty.
The beach is shielded by the coral barrier and with the low tide wonderful natural swimming-pools come out.
You can arrive to Moreré through trips on boat including the visit to the swimming-pools themselves, on foot along the beaches or through a sandy path inside the island.
Cova da Onça
Also knows as São Sebastião, Cova da Onça lies on the southern part of the island. Its name comes from a little cave where, according a legend, there would be an underground shelter used by the Jesuits during the assaults of the natives.
Over there the Jesuits would have left a Saint Sebastian's image to protect the place. The village can be reached in three hours walking alone a lane crossing the wood area called Mata do Serrão and passing through the tiny Monte Alegre village.
